Our Story
At Munro, Outdoor is more than a business — it’s a family tradition built over generations. Phil Munro’s journey in the landscape industry began in the early 1970s, spending weekends and free time alongside his father, Don Munro, helping deliver materials and complete projects. That hands-on experience planted the seed for something much bigger.
After serving in the U.S. Navy in the 1980s, Phil turned his passion into a full-time career by launching Munro in 1987. The company grew steadily, building on its early roots to become a full-service landscape construction company by the ’90s, driven by strong relationships with suppliers and builders and a deep commitment to quality.
Following closely in his father’s footsteps, Jon Munro grew up immersed in the business. After high school, Jon joined Phil to carry forward their shared legacy with fresh energy and expertise. His dedication led him to earn advanced certifications in paver installation, retaining wall construction, and pool and spa building, making Munro a trusted expert in outdoor living spaces.
In 2022, after three decades of success and a remarkable surge in demand for outdoor living design, Phil and Jon made a bold strategic decision — to focus Munro exclusively on landscape construction and installation, letting go of their maintenance division to become true specialists in their field. Today, Munro is proud to craft stunning outdoor living environments, curated flower beds, and elegant planting designs — transforming everything from cozy front yards to resort-style backyards into dream destinations.
